How to Open
To Maximize the Life of Your Flowers
Cut the Flowers
Put the Cut Flowers into the Water
Fill Container/Vase with Fresh, Clean Water
Keep Flowers in a Cool Place Out of Direct Sunlight
Put the Flower Food into the Water
Change the Water and Recut Flowers Every Few Days
Here are some tips to help you care for your cut flowers and keep them looking fresh for longer:
1. Give your vase a good clean
Wash your vase thoroughly in hot, soapy water before using it. This will help to remove any bacteria that could shorten the life of your flowers.
2. Prepare the water
Fill your vase about two-thirds full with cool or lukewarm water. You can also add a packet of flower food if you have it. Flower food typically contains sugar to feed the flowers, and an acid to balance the water's pH level. If you don't have flower food, you can make your own by mixing a little bit of sugar and a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar into the water.
3. Trim the stems
Cut about an inch (2.5 cm) off the bottom of the stems at a diagonal angle. This will help the flowers to take up water more easily.
4. Remove foliage below the waterline
5. Find a cool spot
6. Change the water regularly
Any leaves that will be submerged in the water should be removed. This will help to prevent them from rotting and contaminating the water.
Keep your flowers out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources like radiators or vents. A cool, well-ventilated area is ideal.
Every few days, empty the vase, wash it out with soapy water, and refill it with fresh water. Recut the stems at an angle each time you change the water.
7. Avoid fruit
Keep your flowers away from ripening fruits, such as bananas and apples. These fruits release ethylene gas, which can accelerate the wilting of flowers.
By following these tips, you can help your cut flowers stay looking their best for as long as possible.
